There are wonderful things to do on the Vineyard.
Here are a few ideas.
Dear Friends of The African American Heritage Trail,
Thanks to your continuing support, we are looking forward to another very active year at The Heritage Trail. So far during 2008, we have dedicated three sites in West Tisbury, Edgartown and Vineyard Haven, and exhibited our mobile museum at the Island libraries, the Regional High School and the Vineyard Museum.
There is no life that does not contribute to history.
-Dorothy West
On August 16, we will dedicate the former home of Harlem Renaissance writer, Dorothy West. That evening, following the dedication, we will host a celebration of Ms. Wests accomplishments and of African American culture in The Highlands in Oak Bluffs. The event, at the Shearer Cottage on Rose Avenue in Oak Bluffs, will be our annual fundraiser. The revenue generated will fund future dedications on the Trail and will further develop our tour program, our public history activities and our research work with the entire sophomore class of the Regional High School.
To continue our successful programs, we need your support. We are inviting a small group of sponsors to consider participating in the event as an underwriter as described in the enclosed description.
We hope that you plan to attend our celebration on August 16th and that you will consider becoming one of our sponsors for 2008. If you would like additional information about the Heritage Trail and our programs, please do not hesitate to call me at 508-693-4361 or visit our Web site www.mvheritagetrail.org.
With warm regards,
Elaine Cawley Weintraub, Ed.D.
Board President.
